Unlike endangered animals or heritage buildings, the lack of a physical form presents an initial challenge to broadening community awareness of minority languages. It is an obvious point that spoken language cannot be seen, however it is important to consider the impact of a lack of physical forms on those unofficial languages.
This article supports the line of thought, which proposes that the process of revitalization should embrace culturally specific ways of knowing in a more fundamental way, taking into account the emic, internal perspective of a native speaker, which encompasses traditional indigenous knowledge and interpretations existing within the culture, determined by local custom, meaning and belief.
This paper presents our strategy for the revitalization of Nahuatl, taking as a point of departure a series of projects and activities we have been carrying out for the last several years.
"Wymysiöejer fibl" is our second book of the series „Ynzer kyndyn”, dedicated to young readers. Although a growing children’s literature fills a large gap in the Wilamowicean writing tradition, “Wymysiöejer fibl” attempts to reach a wider audience as well. The illustrations, which depict everyday life of the Wilamowicean people, their traditional clothes, celebrations and landscapes, allow the reader to immerse himself in the Wilamowicean culture. The pictures were made by a Vilamovian- Justyna Majerska. This example breaks another stereotype about Wymysorys- that people from Wilamowicean community do not engage in the revitalization of their language.
Kiedy zastanawiamy się nad motywacjami do nauki i znajomości języków okazuje się, że analizując powody, dla których warto uczyć się języka, możemy znaleźć ich bardzo dużo. Uczniowie szkoły podstawowej i gimnazjum w Wilamowicach na spotkaniu poświęconym temu tematowi (30 września 2014), wymienili aż 66 powodów, dla których mogliby uczyć się wilamowskiego.
The main topic of my communication is the recent progress of the linguistic and cultural revitalization of the Amazigh, i.e. Berber language and identity in Morocco. The reality I'm dealing with is just a fragment of a larger question, concerning cultural and political status of Berber tribes in different countries of the Northern Africa, including both the Maghreb and the regions further to the south, including Mali. This question is by no means a pacific one; it's connected to many political problems and seen as a source of instability in Africa. Morocco is just a relatively stable country of the region that over the last decade have managed to find relatively satisfactory solutions to this question.
